Starting a business is a big achievement for many entrepreneurs, but maintaining one is the larger challenge. There are many standard challenges that face every business whether they are large or small. It is not easy running a company, especially in a fast-paced, ever-changing business world. Technology advances, new hiring strategies, and now, political changes coming with the new administration, all add to the existing business challenges that entrepreneurs, business owners, and executives have to deal with.
Maximizing profits, minimizing expenses and finding talented staff to keep things moving seem to be top challenges for both SMBs and large corporations. We have been interviewing companies from around the world to discover what challenges they are facing in their businesses. We also asked each company to share business advice they would give to a younger version of themselves.
Below is our interview with Mickey Bresman, Co-Founder and CEO at Semperis:
What does your company do?
Semperis is an enterprise identity protection company that enables organizations to quickly recover from accidental or malicious changes and disasters that compromise Active Directory, on-premises and on cloud. Our Directory Services Protection Platform™ provides enterprises with the capabilities to automatically restore an entire Active Directory forest, quickly recover thousands of objects or a single crucial attribute, and instantly revert to a previous Active Directory state. Guy Teverovsky (our CTO), Matan Liberman (our VP of R&D), and I founded Semperis in 2013. Guy served as a lead for identity and access management at Microsoft, and we met when we were both working on a project to implement an Active Directory Disaster Recovery solution at a large bank. We saw the need to automate the Disaster Recovery process and thus, Semperis was born.
What is your role? What do you enjoy most about your role?
I am the CEO of Semperis. I used to work in the IT department at large enterprises, both as an internal employee and as a consultant, so what I enjoy most about my role is knowing that our company helps IT teams in their identity protection challenges, especially with all of the cyberattacks we are seeing in the news these days. I also appreciate the speed of innovation at Semperis. Disaster Recovery is a term that makes most IT teams groan because it’s traditionally been a long and complex process, so to be able to take the pain out of that process makes me feel like we have done our job.
What are the biggest challenges in your business right now?
Our biggest challenge at the moment is gaining market share and raising awareness of the value that Semperis brings to large enterprises. There is a better and simpler way to protect your enterprise Active Directory, and we’ve got it. 2017 was an exciting year where Fortune 100 companies and government agencies became early adopters of our products, and we experienced triple-digit sales growth. This year we are focusing on building greater awareness of our brand and continued expansion and growth.
If you could go back in time, what business advice would you give to a younger version of yourself?
If I could go back in time, I would have started the entrepreneur journey at an earlier age. It’s a bit daunting to leave the corporate world and work on a startup, but it’s been an incredibly exciting and rewarding journey. I wish I could go back and tell the younger me to go for it. That being said, better late than never! And right now is a very interesting time to be working on solutions that help enterprises protect their IT environments.
